Meet The Class of 2023!
Melvin Githinji
Hometown: Nyharuru, Kenya
School: Kanunga High School
Melvin was My Rafiki's first high school student, joining at the beginning of his 2nd year, in the midst of a pandemic! His mom left this brilliant boy with his grandfather and uncle who sacrificed from their farm to send Melvin to the extra county boarding school where he was assigned. Melvin is a thoughtful leader, kindly and patiently answering questions of the younger participants. He's a good student, honors his guardians and recognizes all who support him.
Show our students your support as they face their national exams by purchasing a success card.
The money you give will clear their balance so they can take the exam, and the card will be delivered to them at school.
Mercy Wanja Kinyua
Hometown: Meru, Kenya
School: Makawani High School
Our first girl candidate, when we met Mercy she had lost an aunt who left behind 7 children and her dad had taken up supporting them with what little his family could spare. Despite being a candidate needing all the time she can get to study, our girl Mercy took up tutoring and helping her little cousins catch up when we took them back to school. We acknowledge Mercy and her giving heart.
Sharon Nyambura
Hometown: Nyahururu, Kenya
School: Jomo Kenyatta Girls High School
Sharon is our second girl form 4 candidate. We met Sharon through her brother Patrick and their neighbor Melvin while attending our interactive forums over two years ago. Despite being a boarding student, Sharon has participated in some of our forums and generously shared advice with the kids in lower classes who were joining high school. We are proud of Sharon and her love for other kids at my Rafiki.
Peter Kinyanjui
Hometown: Endarasha
School: St, Thomas Aquinas Endarasha Day Secondary
Peter came to us before the beginning of his 3rd year of high school at the same time he joined his teacher Sheila's home. He has flourished in his confidence, his academics, and his personal walk with Christ. He is such a kind-hearted young man that Teacher Sheila's 2 sons instantly bonded with him as a beloved big brother figure for life.
Favour Peace Akoth
Hometown: Kaliro town, Natwana Parish, Uganda
School: Iganga Senior Secondary School
Favour is our 2nd Ugandan student, following after he brother who is in university. Because of the pandemic, she fell 1 year behind in her academics and has worked hard to catch up. This sharp young lady is now a finalist (candidate/senior) praying the scores from her Ugandan Advance Certificate of Education (UACE) will open the doors to the university and degree course that will allow her to become an Oral Surgeon. Favour's mother serves in ministry and connected with us through an American missionary she co-laboured with in neighboring country, Kenya.
