GIVING

My Rafiki has grown into a giving community that provides essential support for families and, in doing so, builds communities through buying local from small businesses, vendors, and farms. We started during the pandemic in 2021, when the pandemic hit nations without safety nets a lot harder than the USA. Since then, we have assisted families in Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, and Tobago with various school, home and medical needs.

*Each recipient and need is researched and confirmed before being added to our list. No one has approached us directly for assistance. We do not advertise this. Most of our assistance has been a response to prayer requests, referrals, or checking on neighbors. (James 2:15 - 17)

We currently support 24 students with school fees and related educational expenses as well as up to 4 families with special household assistance on as needed basis.

WHY WE GIVE

Our Lord told a story of a man helping an another man in a terrible ordeal out of his own pocket. Even though they were from different nations, this passerby covered this stranger's needs until he was better. This was Jesus' example of how to be a Good Neighbor. We call it the Good Samaritan.

Likewise, the Apostle Paul wrote to churches about supporting poorer and oppressed Christian siblings in other nations and thanked the Philippians for their continued support of his work abroad, promising that God would supply all the needs of those givers.

We give because every child deserves the best chance possible to succeed. This act of love and obedience has been a huge testimony to many families.

We give because every one of use givers remembers receiving what we needed just in time.

Lastly, we give because, due to exchange rates, our little dollar has the power to change so much in so many lives.

Mutegi Family Update.jpg

In November of 2022, our co-founder Emily, learned of a family she was distantly

related to that desperately needed help. A grandfather and his wife in Meru, Kenya

were caring for 7 children aged 7 months to 12 years. Their mother had died

suddenly, and the senior caregivers and the kids' uncle who lives nearby had

provided as best they could, but needed help.

My Rafiki Around the World reached out to farmers in our network as well as

Emily's church. We organized for food, clothes, shoes, coats, hats, and bedding to

be transported from around the country to Meru, a town at the foot of Mt Kenya.

We now cover their education each term, as well as diapers, milk and porridge

monthly, and deliver food from our farmers every 3 months.
